Dear Diary,

Father was going to give this leather-bound blank book to me for my second birthday. However, when he saw how far along I was with my writing, he decided to give it to me today. Not wanting to waste the moment I am putting it to good use.

Mother says all children must learn a musical instrument. I am getting my fingers used to the violin. It will take a while for the callouses to build up on my fingers so I can play properly. It does not help that my fingers are not yet long enough to reach all of the frets I need to. Ah, well, and I was hoping I would have been able to play something for Father’s birthday this year. I suppose I will have to sing with Gregor again this year.
